Selling defective used product
Future ShopOrangeville, On
Purchased a Harmony all in one remote in the package with the security botton wrapped around the outside. Brought the product home and tried to sync it with my computer. I noticed that the "USB" port in the unit it was missing.
I tried to return it to my Future Shop store that I had purchased it from the next morning (20 minute drive from my home).
I went to the exchange/return counter requesting to exchange it with the same product, but one that wasn't missing the usb port.
The sales girl who was helping me was the SAME girl that I purchased the product from the previous evening, matter of fact, she had recognized me from the previous day.
When she looked at the unit (out of the package this time) she stated that the unit looked like it had been previously used, there were obvious signs of this once the product was out of the packaging. She then told me she would be right back. After waiting approiximately 20 minutes with no one coming to talk to me, she stated that they would be doing me a "favour" and exchange the product even though it had been used. Keep in mind, my usage consisted of taking it out of the packaging and then putting it back in the packing to return it to the store.
I stated that I felt like I was beening treated like a criminal and that they seemed to be treating it like I was trying to pull a fast one on them.
Her rebutel implied that that was the case. I suggested that she should bear in mind that I am the customer! Which I always thought were right? and that she was the one who rang the product through the previous day, she became defensive. I was frustrated by the way I was being treated I said that I couldn't f'in believe the way I was been treated and asked to speak to the manager.
The manger was beside her, then introduced herself as the manager for the first time and told me that she basically didn't like my attitude and that I should be thankful that they were doing this favour for me!
I replied that "they had to be kidding!" and that "I could not believe they would treat customers like this!" The manager of the Orangeville On., store (her name is Michelle) then stated that she didn't like the tone of my voice and that I was disrespectful to them. Even though they were in the process of doing the exchange, she took out of my hands the new product to be exchanged and repalced it with the one that I was returning that did not work and said she would not being doing the exchange and I should take the deficient product which I had orginally purchased and leave the store!!!!
I could not believe it!!! I felt that she didn't treat me with any respect and didn't try to nunderstand the situation and frustration that I had been feeling. With further reflection on todays events, I was made to feel like a child being spoken to by a teacher, how obsurd!!! Is this Future Shops policy in treating thier clients? Please call me asap regarding this situation as I would like someone higher up to deal with this.
Outside the fact the I feel that I have been sold an obviously defective product with now no real recourse outside of small claims court.
